The useful decision

Identify the product series, operation and everyday use before comparing handles, operators, locks or finishes.

Begin with the exact product

A handle that looks right is not enough to establish compatibility. Start with the window or door series and its operating configuration. Record whether the enquiry concerns a new order, replacement hardware or a service concern. For an existing unit, include photographs of the complete opening and the hardware in place so the team can understand the context.

Think through everyday operation

Consider who will use the opening, how comfortably the controls can be reached and whether furniture or screens affect access. On a door, discuss the usual traffic path and the sequence for opening and locking. On a window, discuss the operator and lock arrangement for that series. Product-specific hardware should be confirmed as part of the complete unit.

Treat finishes as samples

The hardware gallery shows sample products and finishes, not an included package for every series. A photograph can illustrate a component while the listed finish choices differ. Compare the required finish with the frame and other nearby hardware, then confirm actual availability for the selected system. Do not order a replacement by colour or visual similarity alone.

Coordinate the complete configuration

Handles, locking components, operators, rollers and other accessories have different roles. Ask which components form the proposed configuration and whether handing or a screen changes the selection. If the project has accessibility, emergency-exit or other specific requirements, provide them to the appropriate project professionals rather than assuming that a gallery image demonstrates compliance.

For service, document before changing

Describe the symptom, when it occurs and which unit is affected. Include any available order details and clear photographs. Avoid dismantling or modifying hardware before receiving guidance. The team can advise on the information needed to identify the product; the gallery is not a parts-matching or repair instruction sheet.

Bring this to the conversation

Project checklist

  • Record the series or provide order details if known.
  • Photograph the entire opening and existing hardware.
  • Describe new-project, replacement or service needs.
  • Note the desired finish without assuming it is available on every system.

Avoid assumptions

Questions worth answering

  1. Which hardware belongs to this exact configuration?
  2. Does the sample photograph show the finish being quoted?
  3. Do handing, screens or site requirements affect the selection?
